Q: Do I need a dance partner? A: No, you do not need a dance partner. Our line dances are all done individually. Usually on couples' dances you can find someone to dance with; however, we almost never have the exact same number of men and women attending, so bringing along a dance partner will assure that you have someone to dance with during the couples' session. Most of the people who attend are single, and are willing to dance with anyone.
Q: What nights do you teach? A: Currently we teach on Monday and Tuesday nights. Each night, we teach intermediate line dancing from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., beginner line dancing from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m., and beginner couples' dancing from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. Great fun!
Q: Are you a night club? A: No, we are strictly a dance club. We do not sell alcohol, but we do have free water and a well-stocked soft drink machine. We exist only to help people learn to dance and to give our members a chance to socialize with other dancers in the community.
Q: Where is the club? A: We are located at 1400 Young Street in Springdale. Young Street runs parallel to Thompson Avenue (71 Business), and it is the first street east of Thompson. Go to the intersection of Sunset (Hwy 412 West) and Thompson. (There's a big Price Cutter grocery store one one corner, Domino's Pizza on another corner.) From that intersection, go east on Sunset for one block. Turn right (south) onto Young Street, and the Country Dance Club is located about a block down on the right hand side of the street. There is a large sign over the front door. (You can also reach the building directly off of Thompson. Turn into the parking lot next to P&N's Oriental Grocery store at 1209 S. Thompson. The lot goes all the way through to Young Street. Go to the back of the parking lot and you'll see our building.)
Q: I'm a beginner. Are these lessons too advanced for me? A: All our lessons from 7-9 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday nights are choreographed specifically for beginners.
Q: Why do you charge admission at the door? A: We need money each month to pay the rent and utilities on the building, and to purchase things from time to time. All the money raised goes toward these things; our group is a non-profit association. In fact, since 2001, we have not raised enough money each year to cover these basic expenses.
Q: Are your instructors paid? A: All our instructors are volunteers who love to dance and love to help others learn to dance. No one is paid for their services at the Country Dance Club.
Q: Are private lessons available? A: Some of the instructors will give private lessons. Ask at the front desk or email one of our members if you are interested in private lessons. The instructors do charge for that service, and that money is kept by the instructors. (However, if you're a really good cook, our Terry Luther, is known to be influenced by food or, if you can't cook, large quantities of a certain beverage.)
Q: What is the age range of the people who attend? A: That varies a lot. We've had members as young as 11 and also members who are in their 80s. Most of those who attend are in their 30s, 40s, or 50s. (Except, of course, the females, who are all considerably younger than that.)
Q: Are young children allowed? A: Yes. If the children are not dancing, there is no charge to bring them in. You are responsible for their behavior, though, and if they interfere with the dancing they run the risk of getting kicked and stepped on (usually accidentally). We have had several teenagers learn to dance who have gone on to be outstanding dancers.
Q: Do you allow smoking and alcoholic beverages? A: Not on Monday or Tuesday nights.
Q: I have two left feet. I think it's impossible for me to learn to dance. A: Actually, two left feet is a benefit. That way, it's much more difficult to get your feet mixed up.
Q: Does your club have liability insurance? A: Yes we do. However, we specifically warn that we are not responsible for accidents, thefts, tornados or heat stroke, even if Debbie W. again forgets to turn on the air conditioning when she unlocks the doors.
